The chapter sponsor guides and assists the groups in their efforts to improve the quality of the bands
in many fashions. This person operates under the authority of the Director and is responsible for
governing and monitoring the daily activities and affairs of our chapter. Sponsors are considered ex
officio members of all committees. They act as a consultant and advisor to the chapters and as our
liaison to the University staff.
The Presidents preside at our meetings and represent the
organizations in an official capacity whenever needed. As "leaders of
leaders," the Presidents set the overall style, tone, and vision of the
group and work to encourage the development of new leaders within the
organization. They are ex-officio members of all committees and work to
ensure the proper functioning of all offices and chairs. Presidents must
be effective communicaters, listeners, and teachers. On most issues, the
Presidents do not vote while presiding.
The Vice-Presidents are
responsible for all aspects of the candidate program, including
recruitment, education (or "candidate classes") and the chapter candidate
ceremonies and rituals.
The chapter Secretaries are responsible for taking minutes and recording
summaries of meetings and activities throughout the year. They also handle
all correspondence with other organizations. They are responsible for
maintaining an accurate membership roster and for taking attendance at all
chapter functions. You can also see their handiwork on the bulletin boards
inside the music building.
The Alumni Secretaries are responsible for communication with regional Alumni, including with any local alumni associations. In addition to attending their meetings, they are a consistent point of contact for all alumni wishing to communicate with the chapter.
The Treasurers are responsible for the handling of all money going in or
out of the group, and for maintaining the groups' permanent ledger.
They collect all dues and present reports on the status of the Chapters'
fiscal well-being both to the group and to National Headquarters. They
report on debts owed to the chapters and act as a collection agent for
unpaid sums as necessary. They also work closely to coordinate activities
with the Fundraising Committee.
The chapter Historians maintain a written and pictorial history of the
Chapters and of the Band. They are involved with scrapbooking, recording, and the development of a narrative history of SDSU.
The Sergeants-at-Arms act as "property managers" for the chapter and
record an inventory of all chapter posessions. During meetings they are responsible for collecting and counting
proxies and ballots, enforcing the chapters' parliamentary documents, and
assisting Presidents and Parliamentarian in maintaining proper order.
