Constitutions and Bylaws

In 1978, the Joint Chapters at San Diego State University were founded with a single joint document which served as our combined Constitution. Aside from our charters, this was the only document we used to operate the organizations at the local level. On April 24, 2005, the chapters, at the request of the National Councils, converted the constitution to joint bylaws and adopted separate constitutions.

In the Summer of 2006, the ΚΚΨ National Council voted to revoke the charter of the Eta Mu chapter.

In September of 2006, pursuant to the authorization of Bryan Ransom, the Chapter Sponsor of both organizations on campus and the Director of the Marching Aztecs, the Zeta Xi chapter of ΤΒΣ re-organized by adopting a new constitution for use in this situation.

Western District Bylaws

San Diego State University is in the Western District of Kappa Kappa Psi and Tau Beta Sigma, which was formed in 1987 from the combination former Districts I and II and parts of District X. The Western District is best known for it's dedication to joint cooperation and it's pragmatic, drama-free approach to having fun when the situation calls for it. The organizations each have their separate rules document, along with a set of shared bylaws for district-wide issues like the district publication or convention site committees.

National Constitutions

The National Consitutions are the documents that define and organize the entire Fraternity and Sorority. Although they share many elements and are similar in broad capacity, there are many differences in the details of operation. These documents guide and direct the actions of our National Chapter during each of our biennial conventions.

Robert's Rules of Order, Newly Revised

Like most other organizations, Kappa Kappa Psi/Tau Beta Sigma operates using Robert's Rules of Order, Newly Revised (10th edition), as its parliamentary authority. Although a comprehensive knowledge of paliamentary procedure is not necessary to be a member, all members should have at least a basic understanding of the principles by which our meetings operate. Despite popular belief (!), proper application of Robert's Rules results in faster and more efficient meetings in organizations of all shapes and sizes. Spending a day or so reading up on Robert's Rules will give you a better understanding of both your rights and your responsibilities as a member of an organization. Knowledge truly is power, and knowing how meetings are (supposed to be) run will allow you to ensure that the rights of you and your brothers and sisters are respected. Robert's Rules of Order Newly Revised in Brief — The Official publishers of Robert's Rules of Order, Newly Revised, have published an authorized concise version of the rules, which is a good introduction if you're just getting into the reference manual.
